The Non-objective Phase in Italian Photography
Wunderkammer of the Galleria Civica d’arte Moderna e Contemporanea GAM, Torino, June 25 – November 8, 2020.
Catalogue: GAM- Fondazione Torino Musei /Silvana editoriale, it includes an annotated chronology of the main photography exhibitions, publication and events as well as an essay and biobibliographical notes by Antonella Russo, with a preface by Riccardo Passoni. 62 plates, 14 in color. Italian and English.
This exhibition traces the trajectory of Italian analytic photography from the beginning of the 1940s to the end of the 1950s and its passage from objective photography to the Informel. Debunking the conventional narrative which assimilates all Italian post -war photography to Neorealism, the exhibit exposes the impulse to experimentation which pervades Italian photography beginning with the 1930s which fully developed by the late 1950s.
Forma/Informe includes 47 mostly vintage prints and a selection of photographic literature samples and rare books.

The exhibition includes a selection of 82 photographs by outstanding Italian photographers from the Prelz Oltramonti Collection. Dating from 1930s up to the end of 1980s, this recently acquired repertoire of images embody one of the most vibrant and vital moment in the history of Italian modern photography.

One of the first contemporary Italian photography exhibitions to be shown in the United States art museums , the exhibition gathers works by photographers who investigate the living condition and interaction of citizens with their towns, tracing a concise history of the Italian contribution to the representation of today’s urban spaces.
