Storia culturale della fotografia italiana

dal Neorealismo al Postmoderno

Einaudi – 2011

Storia Culturale della Fotografia italiana identifies the main features and specific contributions of Italian photography to the History of photography. It not only analyzes the work of recognized Italian photographers but it also offers a reconstruction of the socio-cultural context in which modern Italian photography grew out, its the theoretical discourse, the major photo-exhibitions and publications produced in Italy from 1942 up to the beginning of the 1990s.

Moving away from the conventional linear narrative of conventional histories of Italian photography, Russo deals with less debated issues such as the institutionalization of Italian modern photo-associations, the promotion and affirmation of the Italian photography culture, the quest for a photography methodology, the paparazzismo and the advent of post-photography which began to take shape by the end of last century.

Storia Culturale della Fotografia italiana is a text book useful for graduate students and scholars in the History of Art and Photograhy, Italian Studies and a precious reference book for Public Libraries and International Cultural Centers.
