An interview with Berlin-based photographer and video maker Boris Eldagsen who refused the Sony World Photography Awards for the 2023 Open -Creative category for his Electrician 2022 . Soon after his refusal ($ 5,000 worth of top Sony digital equipment) he had the picture of his work removed from SWPA web page and from the exhibition at Somerset House in London. In this interview Boris talks about AI image making , its differences with conventional photography, the misuse of AI generated images in photojournalism , its problematic AI use of copyrighted imagery, creativity of the so called “intelligent” image making. The conversation urges photographers, artists not to neglect to cultivate our humanness in the face of this invasive and pervasive “intelligent visuality devised by faceless and nameless technocrats.
